CASE STUDY 05 / Early-stage healthcare venture

Fibra

Founding-stage work in healthcare smart textiles, covering customer discovery, concept validation, and investor presentations during a seven-month tenure.

MY ROLE

Co-founder

ORGANIZATION

Fibra Inc.

PERIOD

September 2021 — March 2022

THE CHALLENGE

Where the work started.

During Fibra’s founding stage, my focus was identifying healthcare needs that smart textiles could address and testing the commercial relevance of the concept. This case study covers my involvement from September 2021 to March 2022.

MY CONTRIBUTION

Engineering contributions.

01

Start with the problem

Conducted market and product research, engaged prospective customers, and tested the initial concept against healthcare needs.

02

Communicate the opportunity

Built the investor pitch deck and presented the venture to more than 50 potential investors across incubators and accelerators.

03

Conclusion of my involvement

I stepped away in March 2022 after seven months, following differences in working approach. The company continued under the remaining co-founder; its subsequent development falls outside the period covered here.

OUTCOMES

What came out of it.

  • Received the $5,000 Norman Esch Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award through Ryerson University.
  • Built experience in customer discovery, concept validation, and early-stage venture communication.
A compelling technical idea is a starting point. Customer discovery helps determine whether it is the right product to build.
